Cockalier

Cocker Spaniel X Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Kruizen Kennels breed Cockalier puppies, they are a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Cocker Spaniel. Cockaliers are suitable for a diverse range of age groups and lifestyles. This breed is quite active, playful and inquisitive! Cockaliers are extremely affectionate and friendly pets that are excellent with children. They are lively and affectionate companions that enjoy being included as part of the family. As Cockaliers are quite active dogs they do require a yard to play in and regular walks. The Cockalier picks up traits from both parents, Cavaliers are ‘perpetual puppies’, they are always excited to play and will never turn down a game of fetch, whereas, Cocker Spaniels LOVE the water, they will spend hours swimming if you let them!

Size & Colouring

A great deal of variability can occur among pups from the same litter, this is influenced by the genetic contribution of each parent. Therefore, it is impossible to predict the exact size a pup will grow to, they will be a small to medium size when fully grown and reaching 30-43cm in height and 6-16kg in wieght. Cockalier colours vary greatly dependent on the parents genes, with the possibility of anything from black and tan, blenheime (chestnut and white), tri-colour (black, white and tan), blue roan, orange roan or ruby.

Maintenance & Other Needs

Cockaliers are a shedding breed and have relatively easy grooming requirements, with a regular brush (a few times a week) and baths when necessary. Their feathered ears and legs may need extra brushing to prevent knots. As Cockaliers are a floppy eared breed they require regular cleaning of ears depending on their lifestyle. It is recommended if the pups ears get wet that they are dried, if the pup goes swimming in a river or dam ears should be cleaned with a solution available at your local pet store. By introducing regular bathing, brushing and ear cleaning to your puppy at a young age it will be a much easier process later in life.

Cockaliers are very intelligent dogs and among some of the easiest breeds to train. It is very important to socialise your new pup and the best way to do this is to attend puppy preschool. Puppy preschool not only teaches your dog obedience and opportunities to socialise but is also very educational for you, the owner.

Cockaliers love to play, especially in or around water, from the day you bring your Cockalier puppy home they will want to spend every waking minute playing with you.  The Cockalier is an enthusiastic dog that will love any form of attention, from trips to the dog park or sitting with the family.
